So, upon searching google under such criteria as “Leprechaun”, “St. Patrick’s Day”, “St. Paddy’s Day” and “Luck of the Irish”, I knew I wouldn’t feel settled until I found the right picture to celebrate this holiday. Below is the winning picture.  So, with that said, Happy St. Paddy’s Day RB, and remember, only drink and drive if you’re really in the mood for Taco Bell.

A New Detroit

A plan started in 1990 to demolish desolate neighborhoods in Detroit and renew them with  farmland is recently getting some new recognition with the plummet of Detroit’s economy due to the recession. The plan is basically to shrink Detroit by destroying empty houses and abandoned property to create a new “countryside” of Detroit and help pump it’s economy with a new resource. The article here goes into further detail of the plan but, I was curious what you guys thought about this. For you people who like “organics”/”natural” foods, a new agricultural side of Detroit could bring fresher, more accessible fruits and vegetables to Michigan, especially the Southwest area. In addition, for people living in Detroit the demolishing of these ghost areas would mean the city would focus more on “stronger neighborhoods”. Personally, I think it’d be nice to see this new side of Detroit — not only to help it’s economy but, also to help with all the crime and other bullshit Detroit has become known for over the years.

Peter Griffin Chicken Battle Gets Taken to an All New Level…

So, we have all seen the episodes of Family Guy where Peter fights the Giant Chicken.  Well, it seems as though this feud has been taken to the streets and has become very, very real. At least, I can only assume that it was Peter Griffin behind the events that transpired in this video.

Ubuntu 9.10 > All?

I can’t say for certain yet, but according to this article and my limited experience, Ubuntu seems promising. Ubuntu vs Win7 vs Mac

Windows 7 kept BSOD’ing on me after it notified me I may be the victim of software counterfeiting, as if I didn’t steal their shitty OS on purpose. So I decided why not give some linux distros a try. After trying openSUSE (KDE and Gnome) I swapped to Ubuntu 9.10 mainly because conflicts with my wireless card and video card openSUSE had. So far Ubuntu is, in my opinion, way better then Windows 7. Wine + PlayOnLinux lets linux users play pretty much all of their windows based games in linux real-time and uses no emulation. Ubuntu is based on end-user experience and ease of use so it comes with some pre-installed programs like a bittorrent clone, openoffice.org software, firefox and also a software/packet manager with a GUI so there’s no need for users to have to get into any of the package compiling and sources using command prompt when trying to install a program. This is what really made me decide to swap over and not even bother dual booting winxp or win7. Here are some links for anyone who is interested in testing it out. Also, it is pretty much virus prone and anti-virus software isn’t needed.

Ubuntu 9.10 - If you don’t like the look its completely customizable, I have a mac dock and mac theme installed and it runs exactly like a mac desktop.

PenDriveLinux - You can run a standalone OS off the usb with a 1.2-1.3gb partition for programs if you use a 2gb usb stick. Sort of a try before you install, and you can also use the same usb to install if you decide you like it. Program runs without install and is very simple to figure out.
