I’ve recently realized that not a lot of people are aware of or know much about The Sentimental Engine Slayer, Omar’s third film (which my previous post has a link to, if you want it just ask me for the password), or his career as a filmmaker at all, so I figured I’d make a post about it. Omar has been making movies since around when TMV started, the first being A Manual Dexterity and the second being Letters from Dystopia. Neither have been released, but he released the soundtrack from A Manual Dexterity as two solo albums (volume two is Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fungus).
TSES is the first of his movies to actually be released. It is currently touring film festivals and is also supposed to be released on DVD at some point this year. If you go to the official website you can read a synopsis of the movie as well as watch trailers. I was fortunate enough the have the whole film sent to me, which as I said earlier, I uploaded and put in the previous post. I’m not going to give a whole review, but I will say that I loved the film and it is very surprising. Do not take this to just be a half-assed side project. Omar’s manager Cathy probably said it better than I can:
I’m not going to get into to many details because I want everyone to be able to experience what I did when I saw this film, which is now done and which Omar screened for the crew and friends last night.
My Mind Is Blown. I am overwhelmed with what I experienced seeing this film. I can not wait for people to see this film. it is fantastic and omar surpassed even the greatest of expectations I could have had going into this screening.
seriously, it’s a game changer. the guy is a film maker.
The movie was made in 2007 and Omar has been working on three other movies since then, El Divino Influjo de los Secretos, Boiling Death Request, and La Venganza de los Labios Extranjeros. I’ll post more about these movies when the time comes.
Edit: Also, I suggest watching this interview after you watch the movie because it helps explain some of the themes in the movie and things that happen.
